Eggnog Soap

I made Eggnog soap using the cold process method. I didn't like the way it turned out upon initial inspection so I melted it down and remolded the batch. The bars are now setting up to cure. I beveled the edges and polished this batch a little to see if it makes a noticable difference. I don't really think so but to some, it may. My ingredients are as follows:

extra virgin olive oil
palm oil
coconut oil
palm kernel oil
castor oil
fragrance oil
trace of nutmeg

This soap is a darkish brown color of varying degrees on the outside and currently a lighter color on the inside. The inside might darken when the soap hardens all the way through. When the batch was still in the 'liquid' stage, it was a golden color and you could see the nutmeg specks. However, with saponification and the addition of the fragrance oil at trace, the soap darkened.

Note: Some fragrance oils will morph or change the color of the soap. Initially, I colored a small portion of the soap to be a brown so I could put the brown on the top of the soap while it was in the mold for a layered effect. Unfortunately, when adding the brown to the small portion of soap that I removed from the larger mass, the brown turned purple. So needless to say, I was unhappy with that. I followed through though to see what this 'purple' would do after it set up a little. Well it turned purplish grey. Not a pretty sight. So before I melted the whole thing down to remold, I trimmed the purplish layer off and discarded it. Live and learn and keep on trying.
